G'day from Barton
Written by Sue Carpenter (Head Teacher)
On Tuesday we celebrated Australia Day as part of the activities towards our International Award accreditation. The teachers planned a day of activities and children brought in various Australian artefacts. There were koalas, kangaroos, bush hats and boomerangs.
The sounds of a digeridoo could also be heard coming from Class 3.
The day was rounded off with a celebration of the activities and we were pleased to welcome parents to share the occasion with us. Class 1 children made hats with cork brims, Class 2 investigated Australian animals, Class 3 researched significant people who had links with Australia, and Class 4 learnt about and made their own Aboriginal paintings. The day started and finished with songs - the choir sang Waltzing Matilda and Tie me Kangaroo Down Sport, and during the day taught Classes 1 and 2 Cuddly Koalas, and Kookaburra, which they shared with everyone at the end of the day. Thank you to all the staff for planning the activities and especially to Mrs Anderson for coordinating the day.
